西大寺
さいだいじ【西大寺】
(1)奈良市にある真言律宗総本山。 南都七大寺の一。 765年称徳天皇の勅願により創建。 常騰を開基とする。 鎌倉時代， 叡尊が出て戒律道場の中心となる。 天平時代の四仏像， 平安前期の仏画十二天像のほか， 鎌倉時代の美術工芸品が多い。 高野寺(タカノデラ)。 四王院。
(2)岡山市西大寺にある真言宗の寺。 二月に行われる会陽(エヨウ)行事は， 宝木(シンギ)を奪い合う裸祭りとして有名。
